Visitations continue for father & daughter killed in QEW crash

Visitations for a man and his 16-year-old daughter killed in a crash on the QEW continue in Toronto on Saturday.

Jayantha and Eleesha Wijeratne died in a head-on crash last Sunday.

The victims’ minivan was hit head on by a wrong-way driver on a QEW ramp to the northbound Highway 427 around 3 a.m. on Aug. 5.

Jayantha Wijeratne’s wife, Antonette, survived the crash and is listed in stable condition in hospital.

The 19-year-old man driving the SUV that hit the family was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. No formal charges have been laid.

A visitation for the two victims was held Friday night at the Ward Funeral Home’s Weston Chapel, on Weston Road near Lawrence Avenue. Jayantha Wijeratne was 49.

“My dad and sister were wonderful people. They were loving and caring. They were everything, everything to me,” Brian Wijeratne said Friday.

The grieving mother was transported from hospital to the funeral home on Friday.

“They gave her some alone time … it was tough,” cousin Lakshan Wijeratne said.

Visitations will are also being held on Saturday at 11 a.m. and again at 2 p.m.

A private funeral service will be held at a later date.
